The Ambition
To define the identity and communication system for Saudi Arabia’s first biennale foundation, a cultural institution created to champion dialogue, creativity, and global collaboration through art. The aim was to position the Diriyah Biennale Foundation as a platform uniting heritage and innovation, establishing Saudi Arabia as a rising voice in the global arts scene while fostering community pride and cultural exchange.

The Approach
Working alongside the Foundation’s leadership and curatorial teams, Insignia built a cultural framework capable of evolving across disciplines and biennale editions. The methodology combined research, design, and communication planning into a cohesive system that balances structure with creative elasticity.
- We analysed global cultural institutions and biennale ecosystems to understand models of governance, audience engagement, and brand longevity.
- Engaged with artists, curators, and cultural advisors through workshops to identify narratives that reflect Saudi Arabia’s artistic pulse and social momentum.
- Established a brand architecture linking the Foundation’s master identity with its programmes, exhibitions, and educational initiatives.
- Created a modular visual identity and language system designed to express diversity while maintaining institutional coherence.
- Defined communication principles for storytelling, tone, and editorial hierarchy to ensure clarity across publications, campaigns, and events.
- Directed the communication and activation strategy for the inaugural Contemporary Art Biennale, integrating curatorial vision with audience experience.
- Coordinated multidisciplinary implementation across print, digital, and spatial media to deliver seamless alignment between concept and execution.
- Positioned the Diriyah Biennale Foundation as a cultural cornerstone for Saudi Arabia’s creative era, a platform for dialogue, exchange, and artistic evolution.


The Outcome
The Diriyah Biennale Foundation marked a defining moment in Saudi Arabia’s cultural evolution, launching the Kingdom’s first Contemporary Art Biennale in Riyadh. Insignia’s brand and communication system established a clear, confident voice, globally relevant yet locally grounded, positioning the Foundation as a driver of artistic dialogue and international collaboration.
